Energy Information

Kundalini and activations

According to yogic and tantric traditions, an experience is often considered more authentic when it produces a lasting transformation of the person, rather than temporary spectacular sensations.

The signs most often mentioned are:

  • More inner calm and emotional stability.
  • Reduction of the ego, pride, and the need to impress others.
  • Development of compassion and kindness.
  • Increased mental clarity.
  • Feeling of deeper connection to oneself and to life.
  • Spontaneous interest in meditation, introspection, or spiritual growth.

Conversely, several traditional masters warn against confusing the awakening of kundalini with:

  • Simple sensations of heat or vibrations.
  • Brief intense emotions.
  • Involuntary body movements.
  • Visions or extraordinary experiences sought for their own sake.

In many schools, the main criterion is not what happens during the session, but what the person becomes in the months and years that follow. An experience deemed authentic is expected to foster more wisdom, balance, and maturity.

As a massage therapist, you may observe that some people report very strong energetic sensations. The important question is often not 'did the energy rise?', but rather: is the person more grounded, more balanced, and better in their daily life? This is what several traditions consider the most reliable sign.

According to several traditional yogic schools

  • A deep or complete activation is considered rare.
  • Many practitioners may experience partial experiences: sensations of energy, deep meditative states, intense emotions, feelings of unity, etc.
  • A 'complete activation' is often associated with a high level of spiritual discipline, meditation, and personal transformation over several years.

From a scientific perspective, there is currently no objective way to confirm that a person has achieved a complete activation of kundalini. The reported experiences are real for the individuals who have them, but their interpretation usually depends on the spiritual or cultural framework.

In practice, beware of individuals who claim to be able to trigger or certify a complete activation in the majority of participants. In serious traditions, this is generally presented as an exceptional experience rather than a common one.

In spiritual circles that practice
the activation of the kundalini

there is no universal protocol or official medical recognition. Approaches vary greatly depending on the teacher, school, or tradition.

A session led by an experienced practitioner often includes:

  1. Preliminary Interview
    • Discussion about physical and emotional state.
    • Verification of the person's expectations and limits.
  2. Preparation
    • Relaxation of the body.
    • Breathing techniques.
    • Meditation or centering.
  3. Energy Work
    • Verbal guidance.
    • Hands-on or proximity work according to the method used.
    • Visualizations or mantras in certain traditions.
  4. Observation of Reactions
    • Sensations of warmth, vibrations, emotions, deep relaxation, or spontaneous movements may be reported by some people.
    • The practitioner supports without forcing the experience.
  5. Integration
    • Return to calm.
    • Exchange about the experience.
    • Anchoring advice (hydration, walking, rest, breathing).

Signs of a serious approach

  • Respect for consent.
  • No promises of miraculous healing.
  • No psychological or financial pressure.
  • Respect for physical and emotional boundaries.
  • Referral to a healthcare professional in case of significant distress.

Be cautious of those who claim to be able to "guarantee" a kundalini activation or present it as an extraordinary power. Lived experiences are often very subjective and can be interpreted differently depending on each person's beliefs.

authentic spiritual experience
Versus an illusion

It is very difficult to definitively distinguish an "authentic" spiritual experience from an illusion, because there is no recognized objective test to measure kundalini.

Several traditions offer some practical criteria:

A probably authentic experience...

  • Makes the person more stable and balanced over time.
  • Promotes humility rather than a sense of superiority.
  • Improves relationships with others.
  • Gradually integrates into daily life.
  • Leads to greater lucidity and personal responsibility.

An experience that deserves to be questioned...

  • Creates a dependence on a guru or practitioner.
  • Gives the impression of being "chosen" or superior to others.
  • Encourages impulsive or dangerous decisions.
  • Leads to a significant loss of contact with everyday reality.
  • Constantly requires new extraordinary experiences to feel good.

In several spiritual traditions, it is said: "The fruits are more important than the experience." In other words, it is not the intensity of what is felt during the session that matters, but the observable concrete changes in the person's life afterward.

A good test is to ask yourself: "Six months after this experience, am I calmer, freer, more loving, and more balanced than before?" If the answer is yes, traditions generally consider this a positive sign.

Signs often associated with an
authentic experience of kundalini
(according to traditions)

  • Increased inner calm
  • Greater emotional stability
  • Humility and decreased sense of superiority
  • Increased compassion and kindness
  • Mental clarity and discernment
  • Better ability to live in the everyday
  • Sustainable transformation rather than fleeting excitement
  • Feeling of unity or connection without losing touch with reality
  • Less fear, more confidence and presence

Signs that invite caution

  • Constant need to seek extraordinary experiences.
  • Feeling of being chosen or superior to others.
  • Significant disconnection from daily life.
  • Dependence on a master or practitioner.
  • Growing psychological disorganization.

In summary, in most traditions, authenticity is measured more by the lasting positive changes in a person's life than by the intensity of the sensations experienced during a session.
